Sri Lanka Visa – ETA Guide

Most visitors need an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) to enter Sri Lanka. Here's how to apply and what you need.

What is the Sri Lanka ETA?

The ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) allows short stays in Sri Lanka for tourism, business, or transit. It's valid for 30 days and can be extended while in Sri Lanka. Citizens of most countries—including the UK, Australia, USA, Canada, and EU—need an ETA before arrival.

Requirements

Valid passport with at least 6 months remaining from arrival
Debit or credit card for the ETA fee
Email address for confirmation
Apply at least 48 hours before travel (approval is often faster)

How to Apply

Go to the official Sri Lanka ETA website (link below)
Select "Apply for ETA" and choose your purpose of visit (tourism/business/transit)
Fill in your personal details and passport information
Pay the fee with your card
Check your email for approval (usually within 24–48 hours)
Keep a printout or digital copy for immigration on arrival
