Sri Lankan cuisine is a highlight for visitors. Start with rice and curry – a spread of curries, dhal, sambol and rice. Kottu roti is a must: chopped roti with vegetables, egg or meat, cooked on a hot griddle.
Egg hoppers (appa) are bowl-shaped coconut crepes with an egg in the centre – perfect for breakfast. Try string hoppers with curry, wattalapan (coconut pudding), and pol sambol (coconut chilli relish). Fresh king coconut water is the ideal refresher.
